GO Building a Life - Week 5 4/30/2023 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like aa wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like aa foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”Matthew 7:24-27 Week 1 Review: “Follow me.” Submission Death/Sacrifice Immediacy Believer vs Follower There is an eternity of difference between a believer in Jesus Christ and a follower of Jesus Christ Week 2 Which will you be? “Love the Lord your God” Love is not an option for a Follower Love is more than a feeling it is a choice made into the future Love is made real when tested and lived out Genuine Love for God and will bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, endure all things, and NEVER STOP There is an eternity of difference between having a feeling and loving God as a follower Week 3 Which will you choose? “Him only shall you serve” Anything can become an IDOL Anything that captures the heart Anything that controls the mind Anything that drives the soul Anything consuming your strength Idols cause Chaos/Pain Idols steal God’s glory and their lies lead to death Idols must be avoided at all costs There is an eternity of difference between where an Idol leads its followers and where God will lead His followers Week 4 Who will you follow? “Love your neighbor as yourself” “Go” God commands us to baptize and teach obedience And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18–20 What are we supposed to DO? How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14–15 Share the truth AT ANY TIME Introduce to Jesus through EXAMPLE LEAD into faith (Hear, Believe, Confess, Repent, Baptism) Teach to FOLLOW and OBEY WHY DON’T WE? Fear? Insecurity? Lack of Knowledge? Lack of Opportunity? ___________________ _____________ ____________________ Ask yourself: Who sits on the throne? Who do I worship? Who do I love? Who do you serve? If the answer is God then FOLLOW and OBEY Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. 1 Peter 3:13–17 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7–8 There is an eternity of difference between those who follow and obey.
