Learning to Follow - Week 4 Prayer and Fasting Joshua Robinson Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30 ESV “COME TO ME” Be where Christ is “TAKE MY YOKE” Live as Christ lived "LEARN FROM ME” Listen and Obey what Christ says “YOU WILL FIND REST” Life that has been promised To be like Jesus we have to live like Jesus with Holy Spirit’s help Prayer and Fasting You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 ESV The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. Psalm 145:17–20 ESV For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:15–23 ESV Lords Prayer Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Matthew 6:9–13 ESV Position: Humility “hallowed by your name” Attitude: Submission “your kingdom come” Purpose: Alignment “your will be done” Power: Authority “give . . .forgive . . . lead . . . deliver” TRUTH’S ABOUT PRAYER Prayer is not convincing God to give you what you want because prayer is not about you Prayer is about aligning your heart with God’s not bending God’s will to yours We pray so that we may be changed by coming to know God’s heart Transformed to know your identity, your purpose, your mission! How we follow determines how we live
