ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER One Another – Part 4a 1/28/2024 REVIEW Intro Week Its not about YOU “I have been crucified with Christ and its no longer I who live.” Galatians 2:20 It is about YOU (Y’all) “This is my commandment that you love ONE ANOTHER as I have loved you.” John 15:12 One Another - ἀλλήλους (allelon) one another, each other, mutually reciprocally Over 100 uses Key Truths from Scripture: 1) Its not all about you - Its about giving God glory 2) You belong to a “we, us, one-another”, that will not change Week 1 Devoted Love to One Another Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 ESV Devoted: φιλόστοργος, (philóstorgos) “devoted love, shown by family-members" is that special affection shared between members of God's family Honor τιμή (timé) value (weight, honor) willingly assigned to something. Key Truths from Scripture: 1) Devotion is inseparable from LOVE 2) Honor is willingly assign VALUE and God sets the VALUE not me 3) Devoted Love is a choice based on obedience not feelings Week 2 Accept Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:1–7 ESV Accept/Receive: προσλαμβάνω (proslambanó) to receive, grant one access to one's heart; to take into ones intimate life, i. e. family. To welcome into God’s family as brother or sister. Key Truths from Scripture: 1) Acceptance is a positional not behavioral choice (Titus 3:5) 2) Acceptance is about obedience not feelings (John 14:15) 3) Acceptance is an act of love that reveals your heart (1 John 4:1-21) Encourage One Another Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV spur - παροξυσμὸν (paroxusmos) stimulate, incite, provoke encourage - παρακαλοῦντες (parakalountes) to call to or for, to exhort, to encourage, a call to positive action Note: Combination of two words para (by the side of, beside) come and kaleó (to summon/invite).Literally to come along side and call someone. build up - οἰκοδομεῖτε (oikodomeó) literally to “build someone up” helping them stand strong (be strong, “study”) We must speak life before we can speak into someone’s life (Matt. 12:33-37) Words hold power - Gods words are POWER (Eph. 4:29; 2 Tim. 3:16-17) Encourage I am saying: I see you . . . you are not alone I’m right here with you I want the best for you I believe with God you can Speaking life is based on obedience not feelings - it’s love in action Builds the church (Eph. 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:4-5) Creating connection (John 15:12) Giving courage (Joshua 1:9) Cheerleading change (Hebrews 12:1-2) Look beyond the surface and past of a person see their position and potential and speak into their future We all have a past, its our future that matters (Romans 3:23) God saw our position and potential and gave us life (Romans 5:8) We speak life because we were given life (John 3:16-17; 1John 4:19) It costs us nothing to speak life yet the cost of not is enormous Take time to speak into someone else’s life this week Thoughts: 1) How have words been used to build you up or tear you down? 2) Do you struggle with speaking life based on positional and potential not past? If so how can you allow the Spirit to help you live out this command
