Serve One Another: One Another Part 6A

 • Series: One Another

Serve One Another One Another – Part 6A 2/11/24 Service is about the Why, and What we are to do what we do for One Another (Allelon) Why don’t people serve? 1. Unaware that service is part of being a follower of Christ 2. I don’t have the time 3. I am not equipped for service 4. I’m waiting for something that fuels / fits my passion 5. I want to keep my options open Sometimes more than words need to be deconstructed – sometimes attitude needs to be deconstructed as well. Reason 1 stems from incomplete information 1. Not taught 2. Not modeled / emphasized 35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35 ESV Reasons 2 through 5 are “I” problems and can stem from multiple causes • Worldly perspective 8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? Gal 4:8-9 ESV • “Sounds Good” doctrine 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths 2 Tim 4:3-4 ESV • Perceived inadequacy 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor 12:9-10 ESV “I” problems lead to other spiritual infirmities in the church body and in the individual believer. • Discouragement / Dissatisfaction / Decline • Missed opportunities Remedy exists in 2 doses – Service and Mission But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 1 Cor 12:24-26 ESV
