Mark 10:45 ESV Jesus as the Ultimate Example of Service When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, 'Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.' John 13:12-17 ESV Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7 ESV Service as an Outflow of Faith What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:14-17 ESV 1. Faith is the Foundation of Salvation 2. Genuine Faith Produces Works 3. Faith Without Works is Useless And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:40 ESV For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13 ESV Practical Ways to Serve - In the Church Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20 ESV - In the Community So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10 ESV - In Daily Life Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Proverbs 3:27 ESV Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV Becoming a Servant Like Jesus 1. Adopt a Servant’s Heart 2. Identify Where You Can Serve Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them. Romans 12:6-8 ESV 3. Make Sacrificial Service a Lifestyle Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16 ESV 5. Ask God to Give You a Willing Spirit Here am I! Send me.
